GDANSK

Hi everyone!! So sorry I haven’t posted in a while, I’ve been really busy in port and the internet on the ship is super limited! Everything is going well though and I’m having so much fun! Quick update: life on the ship is great, and it’s so nice not having our phones all the time and being able to get to know each other without that distraction. Everyone has gotten close really quickly, and I’ve met people from all over the world which is so cool. As far as seasickness goes, there was only one day where the seas were really rough and it was no bueno for a lot of people (including me). Other than that, there’s not much to tell about life at sea so I’ll get started on Gdansk!!

Overall, I was so pleasantly surprised by Poland. Gdansk was so much more colorful and quaint than I ever would have expected, all of the buildings were so historic, and we had so much good food!! The dollar is really strong there which was also really nice, but we did find that people that are definitely not as friendly as we are used to back home. I traveled with my new friends Ellie, Amy, and Drew, and we spent one day/night in Krakow and one in Warsaw. From Krakow, we visited Auschwitz, which I am so grateful for doing even though we had to wake up at 5 AM and Uber over an hour away. It was so powerful to walk around the actual concentration camp, and we even stood inside the gas chambers, which I’ll never forget.

My friends and I felt like we unintentionally upheld the stereotype of loud, annoying Americans because every time we laughed in public we received many disapproving stares. We did have some really great servers and bartenders though, and discovered our new favorite game of asking the fun ones to surprise us when we order food or drinks, which has yet to disappoint. Poland won’t be my favorite country, but it was definitely a great start to SAS, and we made a lot of great memories!
